Since 1926 in Bologna Italy, Ducati has been at the forefront of bikes, superbikes, and motorcycles alike. Ducati produces racing-inspired motorcycles centered around advanced engineering, chic designs, and unique engines. Ducati has now introduced their newest brainchild, the DesertX. After taking one look at the DesertX you immediately get the feeling of riding through the dunes of Dakar. The new bike is dynamically versatile as it is comfortable off-road and on. The bike is equipped with 21” front and 18” rear wheels which enables you to test some of the most challenging landscapes. The bike is built with traditional Ducati characteristics, a smooth and responsive ride but also capabilities to embark at ease on any type of route and surface.
To dive even deeper into the functionality of the bike, the DesertX is equipped with Brembo brakes and Cornering ABS. Specifically, the brakes can adapt to different circumstances. They are made to offer the proper power when used off-road, but also good modulation when off-roading on more aggressive surfaces. When it comes to the front system it boasts Brembo M50 monobloc radial calipers with four 30 mm pistons, an axial master cylinder with adjustable levers, and a pair of 320 mm discs with aluminum flanges. Then the rear has a Brembo two-piston floating caliper which acts on a single 265 mm disc. This bike also separates itself from most due to its advanced aerodynamics and heat management. Heat management is carefully done through precise calculated openings and flows of fresh air to ensure there are no complications. Aerodynamic protection was created with maximum performance in mind. The tank range is impressive as it is able to last long trips thanks to a 21 liters fuel tank and even the possibility to mount an auxiliary tank, which adds an extra 8 liters.
Now into the fun part, the engine. This engine was made with one core goal in mind, revolutionizing off-roading. The DesertX is equipped with the brand new 937 cc Testastretta 11 desmo engine. It has an eye-opening twin cycling known for its consistently solid performance and functionality. What separates the new version of the Testastretta 11 from the last is the overall weight saving of 1.7kg. Now it wouldn’t be a Ducati without top-notch technology. The light system is full LED and the rider’s aid suite is equipped with traction control, wheelie control, engine brake control, cornering ABS, quick shifter up & down, and cruise control. There are 6 specific riding modes where 2, the Enduro and the brand new Rally, which are specifically engineered for optimal off-roading adventures. The other 4 consist of sport, touring, urban, and wet riding modes. It is entirely customizable to cater to your exact needs. Some of the more popular upgrades consist of the combined rider and passenger saddles and the 8-liter auxiliary tank addition.
