While talking about upcoming French fashion luxury, Alexandre Vauthier is definitely one to be named, although he wasn’t introduced to the industry a long time ago, he has already been able to have outstanding recognition among couturiers and fashionistas. With his current headquarter located in Paris, at 4 Rue de Galliera, this designer has an interesting story on how he got to accomplish his undeniable success in the fashion and luxury industry.

Vauthier’s journey began on November 30, 1971, the day he was born. The designer studied at ESMOD, Paris from 1991 to 1994, and after that, he had the luck and honor of becoming an apprentice of both Thierry Mugler and Jean Paul Gaultier, where he was the head of designs for eight years. “My years at Mugler were extremely formative at all levels. He taught me to be resourceful and find solutions very quickly.” – stated the designer. And nowadays in the collections, he has created we can clearly see the way Vauthier puts into practice what he learned with his teachers.
2009 was a total life-changing year for Vauthier since he had the privilege of debuting in Paris Fashion Week with his own label, and ever since, the exclusive and well-known shoe brand, Christian Louboutin, has been in charge of doing the shoes for several of the fashion house’s shows.

In previous years, the couturier also had the delight of famous glamorous divas such as Madonna, Kim Kardashian, Beyonce, and Heidi Klum choosing him to make special looks for them, due to his fantastique main style. As remarkable as it can get, right?

Giving an insight into the designer’s style, I believe it’s easy to notice that it typically consists of gold and black as well as silver and white accompanied often by Swarovski crystals and embroideries by Maison Lesage (that does sound like a dream combination!).

The letter V, which stands for his name, can consistently be spotted in various designs as well. Vauthier can also be characterized by having anglo-saxon influences and his designs are often denoted by radicalism, which can be seen in the precision and delicacy of the cuts, as well as constantly renewed volumes. Creations by the designer are feminine and crafted with the intention to make women feel more empowered and confident.

Whilst talking about prominent collections pertaining to the couturier, we have three special ones in mind, which definitely granted the brand a global spotlight, and undeniable glamor, daring to create and design a mix of distinctive and different pieces of garments and apparel. The first collection in our mind comes to be the one in collaboration with online luxury shop, Mytheresa, this capsule englobed 12 pieces that focused on precise cuts and fitted silhouettes. The collection consisted of a purple crystal encrusted long sleeves gown, low-cut dresses, and coordinated jeweled high-heel boots (which were categorized as an absolute must-have of this capsule collection!). This collaboration was an exclusive release of some of the most beloved styles throughout the year – stated the couturier.

The Paris-based designer also had an interesting collection with the Italian shoe brand, Giuseppe Zanotti, which brings us to our second selected collection. How great is it to see these two cultures merged by fashion? This collaboration was launched in Paris, in January 2021, another physical season, due to Covid. The Fall / Winter collection 2021, was redolent of the ’70s and ’80s combined with the attractive monde of Parisian nightlife, which is a really appealing theme to be explored in fashion! “For this collaboration, I wanted to create a very distinctive selection of footwear that felt like a natural extension of my collection and also complements the confident personalities of the Alexandre Vauthier woman. The women who wear my collections around the world are both sensual and powerful and this collaboration with Giuseppe Zanotti was made for these bold and inspiring women. Giuseppe understood this perfectly and together we took distinctive details of my couture collection and interpreted them into this footwear collection,” stated Vauthier. The collaboration was an outstanding success, having glamorous and exclusive pieces as an outcome.

Starring fashion’s iconic muse, Kate Moss, our third chosen collaboration is about Alain Mikli and Vauthier, in the creation of an avant-garde eyewear collection. This collaboration includes four daring styles, Edwig, Roselyne, Edwig jeweled, and Nadége which made their debut on the runway in Paris Couture week. Alain Mikli is a Paris-based brand founded in 1978, this eyewear brand, has always been synonymous with inspiration and significance because of its unique designs. These three collections were particularly chosen because it can be clearly denoted the creative capacity the designer has to design different fashion items, from clothes, to shoes and eyewear, and to conquer the expectations of clients in all areas as well as understand them.

Regarding his most recent collection, Vauthier usually likes his designs to be spectacular and exact, as mentioned before, so sharp tailoring and provocative slink are synonyms for him, as they were for the French couturiers Jean Paul Gaultier and Thierry Mugler. We can also find in his style, a consistent and clear love for indulgent excess as well as the echo for the constructive firmly present. It is just fair to say that this couturier is one of our current favorite fashion geniuses due to his most recent collection.

The couturier, joked backstage about his Fall 2022 Couture collection, saying that it was “A Covid-19 paradox” since there has been a shortage of materials (yet, this collection is characterized as excessive) and they had to come up with the most crazily inventive technical solutions to have a unique performance and be up to expectations. Seeing the pieces created for this collection, we can see that Vauthier has triumphed grandly in creating pieces that have the usual characteristics which represent his brand, and at the same time, we can also see clearly how the designer learned from Mugler how to be resourceful and find solutions quickly as stated previously.

Alexander Vauthier granted this collection a seductive syncopated rhythm, Vauthier stated that he wanted something “radical, extreme, and électrique”, three adjectives we can definitely use to describe the over-the-top showstoppers shimmering with metallic silver sequins along a strong variety of oversized suits that were present. A traditional shade of beige, a reduced palette of stark black, some shots of Yves Kein Blue, and glimmers of silver, were the protagonists of these designs. While talking about the silhouettes that gave the mentioned color palette and garments life, we can be quick to mention the body-on, slinky, and revealing drapings that were overtly provocative, that came along with outstanding asymmetrical shapes and V necks, which can be easily and consistently spotted in Vauthier’s designs. We absolutely encourage you to take a look at his previous collection and pick your favorites!

After 13 years in the industry, several interesting collaborations were game changers for the brand. Developing an haute couture and ready-to-wear line, as well as determining such a special mission while dressing women as having them feel empowered and confident alongside the well-determined style to create and design each and every piece to accomplish the goal, Alexandre Vauthier is nowadays very well positioned in the fashion industry, and present in 42 countries with a physical store as well as an online one, and of course, having its main headquarters on 4, Rue de Gallerie.
