Nestled into the north-western coast of Tuscany, Italy, lies the quaint Tyrrhenian-seaside resort city of Forte dei Marmi. Divine dining spots and 18th-century architecture complement the town’s historic “Pontile Medaglie D’oro” and culminate in creating the ideal chic tourist destination. In this article, we explore this Italian paradise and provide our insights into how to maximize your getaway at “Fort of Marble”.

The country’s nearest airports – Pisa International Airport (PSA) and Florence Airport (FLR) – leave travelers with (at most) an hour commute, but a common method of arriving is a direct flight into either Milan Malpensa (MXP) or Rome Fiumicino (FCO) and taking a private car service through the countryside. This option leaves you at the doorstep of the resort in around 3 to 4 hours.

Although Forte dei Marmi has bolstered its reputation as a high-class sojourn for professional athletes and international celebrities with its designer-lined streets, Michelin star restaurants, and private beach clubs, the luxurious coastal town has not lost its authenticity. Street vendors abound and the weekly open-air markets drive local artisans to the Piazza Marconi to promote new fabrics and unique styles.
Where to stay
Principe

Easily the most luxurious hotel for the jet set in Forte dei Marmi, this modern-style hotel features a rooftop bar, floor-to-ceiling glass windows, and panoramic views of the city. Between yacht charters and robust group packages including a regenerative spa experience, Principe checks all the boxes. Located a bit outside of the city center, this hotel feels like its own secluded luxury getaway with a variety of on-site restaurants from Michelin Star to casual beachfront dining that will assuredly keep you satiated during your stay.
St. Mauritius

If you’re seeking a more easygoing (yet still luxurious) experience, St. Mauritius is the spot. Perfect for couples and families alike, this spacious hotel is located on Via XX Settembre, Forte dei Marmi’s most elegant street and district, and sports a magnificent, landscaped garden with an outdoor pool outfitted with hydromassage jets. Guests have access to a natural spa, free bikes, a gym, and hotel specialists 24/7 to provide a complete experience.
Where to dine
The Lucca province (and Italy in general) boasts succulent dishes in every nook and cranny. Whether you’re in the mood for some Buccellato – a traditional sweet bread – or some Garmugia – a delectable Tuscan soup – you can’t go wrong with Italian cuisine. And luckily – Forte dei Marmi supplies enough five-star restaurants fit for any palette. Here, we leave you with some of our favorites.
Al Bocconcino

One of the most iconic and authentic restaurants in Forte dei Marmi, Ristorante Pizzeria al Bocconcino has been in business since 1984 and utilizes the freshest ingredients regarding seasonality and localization. Although not considered chic by traditional measures, the ratio of quality to price leaves diners pleasantly surprised and entirely satisfied. Dine al fresco in the typical Italian noisy-fun fashion in their outdoor patio setting. This small-town staple is not to be missed!

Twiga Forte dei Marmi

Amazing live music band, scrumptious food and hearty drinks, hookaa shisha service and parties until dawn – what else can you ask from the trendiest nightclub and restaurant on the Versilia coast? Forte dei Marmi is home to some of Italy’s most iconic nightclubs – and Twiga ranks high on that list.

Entertainment for all ages and at all times of the day, this luxurious beach club can host guests from breakfast to lunch and dinner in their 4x4m Arab-style tents equipped with a sofa, king-size beds, and personal customer service. Twiga also offers different relaxing and invigorating activities including a personal trainer, pilates classes, and water aerobics.

During the evening hours, the versatile beach club turns into a full fledged fine restaurant and nightclub with hookah service and world-famous DJs. Our choice is Dine ‘N Dance at Twiga on a Saturday night with a delicious five-star meal, international artists, live music, and dance the night away!

The food here is worth mentioning too! We loved the choice of maki rolls and fusion dishes such as Salmon tartare and Tuna ceviche, but our forever favorite is Risotto of the day which is always cooked to perfection.
Ristorante Lorenzo

One of the more notable Michelin Star-rated restaurants of Forte dei Marmi that stuns guests is Ristorante Lorenzo. Drawing influence from its historied Viani family, the gourmet restaurant brings forth undeniable elegance through its furniture, hospitality, artwork, and sculptures. Simplistic luxury exudes from every corner of this upscale eatery. Up and running since 1981, the family’s heir Chiara has helmed the operation to remarkable success – and even better cuisine!
