Ibiza is one of the many small Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea. It is popularly known for its vibrant and lively nightlife and is a very popular vacation and party spot in all of Europe. Although the island’s size is relatively small, it is packed with various amazing sights, attractions and exciting activities to do. Along with its white sandy beaches, enchanting views, mesmerizing sunsets, lively party vibes and delicious food, it is also home to peaceful villages and yoga retreats. If you seek to enjoy a good meal with amazing views to the sea and some great music to dance to, then ROTO Ibiza is the perfect spot for you!

ROTO is a restaurant located on “Marina Ibiza”, that acts as an escape from the raging party scenes. It is built with a fusion concept of being a restaurant and a club, allowing it to be flexible as per the customer’s needs. Roto first opened its doors in 2019 with the intention of uniting the origin and the special history of Ibiza thus educating the tourists of the significance of this popular island. The restaurant is built to rest on a pier at the edge of the Ibizan port with a large terrace that flies over the breakwater giving spectacular views of the sea and the passing by yachts. The gastronomy, relaxing atmosphere and music at Roto take you to a land of awe and the beautiful view of the sea is simply breath takingly amazing to be etched on to your memory to last a lifetime.
ROTO is a tribute for the lovers of the sea, it is the best spot to take a break, relax and look over the soothing sea. The restaurant offers a quality cuisine with the traditional flavours of Ibiza that takes you back to a nostalgic journey of the old times.
The unique flavours evoke a spirit of a time when what mattered most was the moment, the here and the now. With some of the best fresh ingredients and flavours, ROTO creates a distinctive Mediterranean meal with Arab, Greek and Italian influences and traditional flavours of Spanish cuisine that are evocative to the past. The menu changes with the seasons, but one thing that is always present is spices, the traditional Spanish spices like Paprika, Saffron and Bay leaves enhance the overall flavour and aroma of the dish. The menu consists of various unusual dishes with unique flavour combinations that are paired with wines, juices and cocktails of your choice. Some of the most popular dishes on the menu are: Creamy Rice with Prawns, Cuttlefish and Mushrooms, Tempura, French toast and the Patatas a lo Pobre (potatoes to the poor) that are fried with onion and green peppers.

With its perfect location which gives amazing views to picturesque sunsets and to the crystal-clear water, its great taste in music and the backlit bar make ROTO an excellent choice for those who dare to dream and wish to relax and peacefully look over at the sea. It is quite different from the other sunset viewing restaurants in Ibiza, as it offers an adventurous menu and a dining experience like no other.
Let’s dive deeper into the world of ROTO by talking to the co-owner Miguel Sancho and asking him a few questions.

– What inspired you to come up with the name ‘ROTO’?
ROTO is a restaurant that sits on a breakwater, and the word “break” in Spanish is “roto”. Therefore, a direct explanation for the origin of the restaurant’s name is that it sits on a ROTO-water or breakwater. However, there is a more intimate explanation and that is that we meet the place where the platform that houses the restaurant sits while walking one night in July, at dawn, while we were accompanying a friend whose heart in love terms had been broken and needed unburden. Hence, the term ROTO (broken) was always very present at the beginning of the project.

-What can you tell us about the concept and flavour of ROTO Ibiza?
From the beginning we wanted ROTO to be the place where, with an exquisite decoration, those who visit us could have lunch or dinner very comfortably and also have a drink or a cocktail in a casual way, accompanied by a nice atmosphere and with music “of that that fits us all “, without fanfare. And all this at a reasonable price, all year round (not only during the summer season, to feel the union with the island of Ibiza) and with impressive views.

-Do you plan to open other branches?
We dream of having a ROTO restaurant and club in each of the best marinas in the Mediterranean. A unique space in each city for its views, its connection with the sea, its clients who know how to appreciate what they want… a place where in each port one can simply let time pass by enjoying themselves.

-What are your goals with ROTO that you are yet to archive?
A place like ROTO is always in constant evolution. It is a living being that advances with the times without losing its essence. At each visit, even in a short period of time, the customer always has the ability to find something new. Coming to ROTO is always a good idea because a new experience is always different from the previous one. You will have to visit ROTO to, week after week, answer this question. And to this we invite CHIC ICON readers.

-How do you connect ROTO with the rich history of Ibiza?
ROTO was here before we knew it. It always was. Generation after generation Ibizans and visitors have sat there to contemplate Dalt Vila, the majesty of the old city that gave rise to the culture of the island. An imposing portion of history, of which everyone feels part, be it his payesa blood or it comes from the antipodes. The Ibiza that you feel and breathe in ROTO is the one that our parents created. And our grandparents. And the grandparents of our grandparents. The one that mixed hippies with people from all over the world no matter where they came from. ROTO is a meeting point where you surround yourself with friends, where you dress as you wish. No private, no reserved areas, no fanfare. ROTO is hubbub, it’s freedom. ROTO is a living barefoot.
