About David Yurman and History of the brand:
The brand ‘David Yurman’ was founded in 1980 in New York City by David Yurman, a sculptor and his wife Sybil Yurman, a painter. The company was built upon with their passion for art and design. David Yurman made his first piece of jewellery upon his wife Sybil’s request, who wanted a piece of art that she could wear to an art gallery. He crafted a bronze necklace that was made up of intertwining warped figurines. The gallery’s owner was so impressed by the necklace that he wanted to remake and sell the necklace. David and Sybil understood that by combining their artistic and sculptural backgrounds they could create exceptional pieces of jewellery that also functioned as art. Soon David Yurman become famous for his unconventional designs and use of materials.
Today, ‘David Yurman’ remains a family owned company. David is involved in the entire creation process and when designing new pieces, he always wonders if Sybil would wear these pieces. In 2003, their son, Evan Yurman joined the company and is now the head of men’s jewellery and watches. Drawing inspiration from natural textures, antiquities and avant-garde materials, Evan has played an integral role in the design direction of the Men’s, Wedding and High Jewellery Collections at ‘David Yurman’.
