Chic Icon, the dedicated advocate for global causes and charitable endeavors, proudly stands as the official media partner for the Better World Fund’s momentous charity event at the 80th Venice Film Festival. With a steadfast commitment to raising awareness and fostering global change, Chic Icon embarks on a two-year partnership with the Better World Fund, solidifying its dedication to a brighter future.
The Better World Fund, renowned for orchestrating impactful international events, takes center stage once more. Amid the grandeur of the 80th Venice Film Festival on September 7th and 8th, 2023, the iconic Ca’ Sagredo Hotel and the Misericordia di Venezia will play host to an extraordinary assembly of luminaries and thought leaders from around the world. Together, they unite under the shared mission of shaping a positive global destiny.
During the gala evening, taking place on September 8th at La Scuola Grande Della Misericordia, in the presence of Isabelle Huppert, Jeremy Piven, and Rossy de Palma, many celebrities will support BWF’s commitment through their attendance, contributing their image to a cause that engages us all: Women Empowerment in the Image of Maria Callas.
Symbolizing BWF’s theme, Euzhan Palcy, a celebrated filmmaker, is being commemorated for her achievements. She received an honorary Oscar last November and was recognized as the first Black director to win the Silver Lion at the 1983 Venice Mostra. She further garnered a César Award for Best First Work, a historic achievement for a female and Black director. Palcy’s work has inspired filmmakers, artists, and writers. Recently, she was honored with Medals of Honor from the Society of Dramatic Arts and Composers in France and the French National Assembly.
In the words of Manuel Collas de la Roche, President and Founder of the Better World Fund, “Within the enchantment of La Mostra, the Venice edition of BWF celebrates the indomitable spirit of women, amplifying awareness of their integral role and profound power within the cinematic realm. Today, the film industry is an unequivocal catalyst for social, educational, and environmental values. Nurturing women’s involvement across all facets of filmmaking remains pivotal to fostering an equitable and all-encompassing society.”
Dedicated to the theme of “Women’s Empowerment,” the Better World Fund extends its support to the Maria Callas Foundation, a beacon of artistic preservation honoring Maria Callas’s centenary. This Foundation curates a cherished archival collection, a testament to Maria Callas’s monumental impact on culture and creativity, ensuring her legacy endures.
A cornerstone of this endeavor is the masterclass “From Script to Screen: Empowering Women in the World of Cinema,” set for September 8th at 10:00 am within the grandeur of the Scuola Grande Della Misericordia. Esteemed moderator Mrs. Elisabeth Moreno, President of Tech Foundation and Former Minister for Gender Equality, Diversity, and Equal Opportunities, will lead a dialogue illuminating the multifaceted contributions of women across industries.
This masterclass aims to highlight the incredible achievements of women across various industries and shed light on pressing issues that affect their personal and professional lives. Besides her, influential women and experts in their fields, who are working for the place, protection, and equality of women in our society, will be debating with the audience. They are a symbol of creative change and are making a difference in our world.
