In Madre de Dios, travel is all about walking, observing and listening. When you walk along the region’s trails, the entire forest is revealed as you pass by: if you look carefully, you will see how trees compete with each other in search of sunlight; and if you listen carefully, you’ll discover flocks of macaws or troops of monkeys moving quickly through the treetops.

Madre de Dios

In Madre de Dios everything contributes to the spectacle, and you are the privileged spectator. It is a home to Manu National Park, Tambopata National Reserve, and Bahuaja-Sonene National Park, and the amazing rainforest lodge Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica.

Madre de Dios is the perfect place to discover the rainforest and fall in love with it forever!

One of the highlights during a trip in Madre de Dios must be this eco-luxury lodge on the shores of the Madre de Dios River. Pristine, remote and yet easily accessible. Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica is adjacent to the lush Tambopata National Reserve, where the Madre de Dios river meanders through the Southern Peru rainforest region, known as the Biodiversity Capital of Peru.

There are no roads in this area, so all traffic has to go in and out by boat. It is amazing to see stylish eco friendly cabanas with all luxury amenities far away from the benefits of civilization. The hotel is surrounded by nature in the middle of the rain forest, making it tranquil and mysterious. All you hear is a forest with thousands of birds singing!

Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica

Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica is situated in the heart of a 17,000 hectare (42,008-acre) private ecological reserve. 540 bird species have been inventoried on the hotel grounds, deep in the rain forest. You really get a taste of what the amazon rain forest is like.

The hotel has 35 wooden cabanas inspired in the Ese’Eja culture. The furnishings in the cabanas are done in a luxury jungle style. It’s simple but comfortable and clean and all the service staff are extremely friendly. We stayed in Tambopata Suite, the biggest suit of the lodge. It comprises a private covered terrace with plunge pool, plus sunbathing chairs and outdoor shower, as well as big siesta lounge furnished with hammocks. Another good option is Superior Rio where you have beautiful views overlooking the river.

Tambopata Suite

All the bungalows are very well protected from insects and the area is well maintained. There is no WiFi and cellular coverage which is perfect, you truly get to enjoy the environment. You can observe an amazing rain forest nature from impressive restaurant area! Inspired by the tropical flavors of the Amazon region, meals and beverages at Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica are prepared with fresh local ingredients. All meals include a variety of salads and fruits, as well as a selection of homemade breads. It is amazing to see something like that among the untouched nature.

We also recommend to visit Ena Spa where you can enjoy luxuriant treatments with exotic Amazonian ingredients. All therapies use 100% natural Spa products, which are derived from local botanical extracts.

It is highly recommended to join one of their tours and the guides are all very knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna and were excellent at spotting hidden animals. You can tell they really love their job and the Amazon rain forest. The property offers a varied selection of à-la-carte excursions, including a visit to the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway, a bridge system at 30 meters above the ground, allowing adventurers to enjoy a privileged view of the Amazon.

Mammals, birds, reptiles and butterflies are abundant; thousands of species of trees and flowers greet visitors on trails; and aquatic creatures in their natural habitat display their curiosity, even posing for the camera on occasion. Madre de Dios is the perfect place to discover the rainforest and fall in love with it forever!
