The Evija has been manufactured by Lotus Cars, a British automobile manufacturer, as its first electric vehicle and will have its production limited to only 130 units. The Lotus Evija has been assembled in Hethel, Norfolk, England, and was unveiled in July, 2019, although the production of the vehicle is expected to begin in early-mid 2021. With a lot of emphasis given towards its dynamic performance, handling, top speed, and thrill of driving, the Lotus Evija has been classified as a sports car and falls into the elite category of European sport coupe.

The Lotus Evija has been designed by Russell Carr with a body style of a 2 door coupe, meaning that the car will have a sloping or truncated roofline, and 2 doors. Speaking of its 2 doors, the doors have been designed in a scissor fashion, allowing them to rotate vertically at affixed hinge to the front of the doors, rather than outwards as with a conventional door. Moreover, the layout given to the car is of an Individual Wheel Drive (IWD), meaning that the drive-train of the car allows all the wheels to receive torque from several motors independent of each other.

Furthermore, the Lotus Evija has been equipped with 4 electric motors placed at each wheel which convert electrical energy into mechanical energy, and produces a power output of 1970 hp (1470 kW). This massive power output results in a lightning top speed of 320 km/h (200 mph). The car is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in only 3 seconds, and can accelerate from 0 to 300 km/h (186 mph) in less than 9 seconds. This lightning speed and jaw dropping acceleration is managed on the road with a 4 speed planetary transmission system, which refers to the car having 4 forward driving speed ratios, and a single reverse speed ratio.

The Lotus Evija is a 2.1 million Dollar electric hyper-car, more or less like an electric car on steroids. The name “Evija” itself refers to “alive” or “living”, which is justified by the way in which it offers a driving experience of a lifetime to its riders. Having been manufactured as the British manufacturing company’s first electric vehicle, Lotus would surely hope and aim at setting a benchmark for the next cars to come into the market.

Lotus has over the years made a reputation for itself as a manufacturer of affordable sports cars that are rather small and nimble, yet top performers on the road, such as, the Lotus Exige Sport 410, Lotus Elan S2, and the Lotus Elise GT1. Similarly, Lotus aims at raising the bar for itself and the rest of the automobile manufacturers in the world by making the Evija the most powerful production car in the world.
