Blue Lagoon in Iceland

The magic of nature created by human hands.

Nature often gives us real miracles, for example, thermal springs, when hot saturated with salts and minerals water beats out of the ground among snow and ice. Often it is not only beautiful but also useful for the body, so many tourists come from far away to try the healing power of nature.

The Blue Lagoon is a world-famous geothermal lake located on the Reykjanes Peninsula in Iceland, just 10 min drive from the International airport Keflavik. It is famous for its amazing aquamarine color and black lava sand around. The temperature in the lake reaches 38-40 degrees Celsius. Due to the unique composition of water, the bacteria in it simply do not survive, but the minerals in it contribute to the health of the whole organism.

The three factors that made it the absolute leader in attendance among Iceland’s attractions are the location of the lagoon, relaxing atmosphere, and benefits for the skin that give its waters. Only the Golden Ring tour can compete with it.

With some support from the world-famous media, the Blue Lagoon has become one of the most desirable and popular tourist attractions in the world. National Geographic included the Blue Lagoon to the list of the top 25 wonders of the world, Condé Nast Traveler magazine awarded it as one of the first in the list of the world’s top 10 spas.

The Blue Lagoon today is so popular that you have to book the dates you need a few days in advance. So what’s the history of its success?

The history of the Blue Lagoon dates back to 1976, when it was formed around the Svartsengi geothermal power station. It is simply surplus water from the operation of a power plant that extracts steam and hot water from the ground. Thus, the lagoon is not a natural formation but a result of human activity. Its water is completely clean and does not contain any chemicals – only natural minerals, which, as it turned out, are very good for the skin. And since the water constantly arrives at the lagoon from the power station, it is fully renewed every 48 hours, which only benefits the cleanliness.

Many spa services are available to all visitors in the lagoon: silicon clay mask, sauna, steam rooms, an artificial waterfall, a cave for relaxation, a bar right in the water, the opportunity to enjoy a massage in the water and relax in the indoor chill-out area overlooking the lagoon.

The Blue Lagoon is famous for the miracles that it creates with the skin thanks to the rich minerals and special algae. When visiting the lagoon, all guests are offered a silicon mask, and algae can be purchased on-site, and in the showers, you can try a hair conditioner, which is also produced here.

Fortunately, all these products (and many others) can be purchased and taken with you. The most popular among visitors is the algal and silicon masks, but shower gel, cleanser, and all other positions are also worthy of trying.

Among other things, there are two hotels, two restaurants, a gift shop that sells skincare products that we mentioned before, a café, and a restaurant at the territory of the Blue Lagoon. They have everything you need to relax and enjoy your time!
