Specializing in high-end residential properties and hospitality projects, you realize that one of the biggest challenges is mixing classical design heritage with modern living. Every project is a never-ending puzzle, and that’s the beauty of interior design. To seek for this balance, combining old and new. Experience, inspiration, talent, risk, and the ability to listen carefully to the desires and needs of the client lead to bespoke, life-enhancing interiors.
Luxury in interior design can be elusive. How do you ensure that your designs not only evoke opulence but also cater to the functional needs of the space’s occupants?
My design philosophy is to create a combination of personalized and luxury design. It is essential for the occupants to feel comfortable and live in a space that caters to both aesthetics and functionality. A space that is uplifting and does not look like a museum where you can’t touch anything.
Your journey has been influenced by various cultures. How do you incorporate global inspirations while maintaining a coherent design language in your projects?
As an interior designer, my source of inspiration comes from everything and everywhere. When I travel a lot, I have the chance to get in touch with different people, cultures, habits, buildings, settings, etc. Depending on the project, you use all of these magic souvenirs that you carry in your mind and your soul. Every time I choose a tile from this exciting mosaic of influences and styles, I love eclecticism. But in the end, I want all pieces to support each other with harmony and balance.
Materials play a pivotal role in interior design luxury. Could you shed light on your selection process and how you use materials to create a luxurious ambiance?
I’m constantly on the lookout for new things in order to create tailored and sophisticated interiors. As for the materials, first you consider the requirements of the project, and then you see the possible materials that you can use. It is important to have a high level of respect for the process, since the materials come alive in every interior. You make a mood board, and you take into consideration textures, light, colors, composition, contrast, etc. From exclusive art installations to bespoke furniture and sculptures, you put them all in the correct amounts in order to create a luxurious ambiance.
The world of design is ever-changing. How do you envision the future of luxury interiors, and what role do you see your designs playing in shaping that future?
The world of design is a very interesting journey. In the future, I think that luxury interiors will be a fusion of nature and innovation. A mix of opulence, technology and sustainability. Luxury interior design will undoubtedly take into consideration the environmental impact as people become more environmentally conscious. High-end design for residents and in hospitality would create oases inviting nature’s tranquility indoors. Biophilic design is already creating harmonious interiors with the trend of indoor gardens and green walls. I’m a big fan of Biophilic design, and I designed a hotel suite based on that concept. In the next few years, eco-conscious architecture and innovative trends will take center stage, creating harmonious interiors, and sustainability will be the new “luxury” in interior design.
Can you speak about your inspirations for design and how you got to where you are now in the design world?
The mindset of an interior designer is like an overflowing closet. You take inspiration from your travels, from art, from the cinema, from magazines, from new materials—the list is endless. However, the most important thing is that you take inspiration from the project. Every project has a story to unveil or a new story to tell. I’ve always wanted to be an interior designer. As a kid, I used to sketch houses in order to sleep. Today, I’m grateful to have the chance to create unique spaces that make people happy.
