Monaco Art Week 2024, under the High Patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, promises an exciting journey through the Principality’s vibrant art scene from July 2 to July 7, 2024—this year’s event, graced by the presence of H.R.H. The Princess of Hanover, features an impressive array of exhibitions, events, and conferences, making it a must-attend for art enthusiasts.
One of the standout newcomers is the Almine Rech gallery, newly located on Avenue de la Costa. Their exhibition, “Nature’s Reflections,” presents a captivating collection of works by artists like Miquel Barceló, Jean-Baptiste Bernadet, and Ugo Rondinone. These artists delve into the intricate beauty of nature, using various mediums to explore and convey its essence. Barceló’s textured paintings and Rondinone’s multimedia installations particularly stand out for their emotive and immersive qualities.
Another highlight at Monaco Art Week 2024 is at the NM Contemporary with Julien Spiewak’s “CORPS DE STYLE.” Spiewak’s unique project merges his body with antique settings, creating a dialogue between the human form and historical architecture. This exhibition is not just visually striking but also thought-provoking, offering a fresh perspective on how contemporary art can interact with and reinterpret the past.
Lebreton’s exhibition of Jean Cocteau’s ceramics is another noteworthy feature. Cocteau’s work from the 1960s, created on the French Riviera, includes a unique selection of ceramics, drawings, and tapestries. These pieces provide a fascinating glimpse into the mind of one of France’s most versatile artists, showcasing his ability to blend classical and modern techniques.
At Galerie Adriano Ribolzi, Ganga Singh’s vibrant works inspired by the flora and fauna of India offer a colorful and energetic display. Singh’s pieces are a visual feast, capturing the dynamic interplay between nature and artistic expression.
The Opera Gallery’s “The Monaco Masters Show: La Côte d’Azur, terre d’inspiration” is another significant attraction, featuring works by iconic artists like Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, and Niki de Saint Phalle. This exhibition highlights the French Riviera’s enduring allure as a source of inspiration for some of the greatest artists of the 20th and 21st centuries.
HOFA’s exhibition, “PAPILLOTAGE” by Anne von Freyburg, brings a contemporary feminist perspective to the fore. Von Freyburg’s works challenge traditional representations of women, urging viewers to reconsider the boundaries placed on female attributes.
The NMNM – Nouveau Musée National de Monaco will host an engaging discussion with artist and architect Guillaume Aubry to celebrate the new architectural sculpture ‘Régulus’ in the gardens of Villa Paloma. This event promises to blend art, architecture, and nature in a serene outdoor setting.
The inaugural event “THE FUTURE OF THE ART MARKET,” organized by Simon de Pury, will feature debates with personalities like Hilde Lynn Helphenstein (Jerry Gogosian) and Kenny Schachter. This promises to be an enlightening session on the evolving dynamics of the art market, making it a critical event for industry professionals and collectors.
