Chic Icon: Maxim, it’s a pleasure to have you here. Could you share a bit about yourself and your journey in the world of ballroom dancing?
Maxim Zherdev: Thank you for having me. I’ve been dancing for 19 years now, starting at a very young age. I’ve had the privilege of competing in numerous international and local competitions in Russia, where I’ve clinched many important victories. Currently, I reside in Dubai, teaching ballroom dance while also competing professionally in local tournaments.
Chic Icon: What are your aspirations for the near future?
Maxim Zherdev: Well, Dubai is rapidly becoming a global hub, attracting people from all corners of the world. My plan is to establish a ballroom dance school here, envisioning it as a vibrant center where dancers can congregate, compete, and learn from one another. Additionally, I’m working towards founding a federation dedicated to ballroom dancing in the UAE, which I believe will contribute significantly to the sport’s growth in this region.
Chic Icon: Could you elaborate on your vision for the Federation of Ballroom Dancing in the UAE?
Maxim Zherdev: Certainly. This federation would mark a significant milestone for ballroom dancing in the UAE and in the region. It will serve as a platform for hosting local and international tournaments, potentially even a world championship. Dubai’s status as a neutral ground makes it an ideal location for nations to come together and compete in this elegant sport.
Chic Icon: What distinguishes ballroom dancing as both an art form and a sport?
Maxim Zherdev: Ballroom dancing is a rigorous physical activity that demands exceptional stamina and skill. Each dance requires precision, agility, and emotional expression, making it a true test of athleticism. Yet, beyond its athletic aspect, ballroom dancing is a captivating art form, a language of movement that speaks to the soul.
Chic Icon: You mentioned plans for a ballroom dance school. What other projects do you have in mind?
Maxim Zherdev: Alongside the school, I aspire to launch a clothing brand for dance attire, blending style with functionality to meet the needs of dancers worldwide. Additionally, I’m exploring opportunities to further promote the sport through various initiatives and collaborations within the UAE’s vibrant cultural landscape.
Chic Icon: Lastly, do you see yourself returning to professional competition?
Maxim Zherdev: Absolutely. While my current focus is on laying the groundwork for the federation and the school, I have every intention of returning to competitive dancing. Dubai’s burgeoning dance scene presents exciting opportunities, and I’m eager to showcase the talent and passion that define this captivating sport on the international stage.
