Sunreef Yachts held the Middle East launch of the 80 Sunreef Power Eco Athena Too model during the Abu Dhabi International Boat Show this year. With solar cells integrated into the composite bodywork, Sunreef Yachts’ ground-breaking solar power technology powers this opulent catamaran with unparalleled energy efficiency for a better future.
The Sunreef 80 is a versatile sailing leisure vessel perfect for private retreats, charters, and cross-border travel. This model features an easy-to-flow-through combination of external and interior spaces. It has a modern style with a classic edge, thanks to the superstructure and bridge deck’s intelligent design and abundant use of teak. With a new superstructure concept, the Sunreef 80 gains a saloon plan with an outstanding potential for customization.
We met with the CEO of Sunreef Yachts, Francis Lapp, during the Abu Dhabi International Boat Show 2023 to talk about the original Eco concept and sustainable vision of the company.
Sunreef Yachts hosted the Middle East premiere of the 80 Sunreef Power Eco Athena Too at the 2023 Abu Dhabi International Boat Show. Why did you choose this show for your presentation?
We chose ADIBS because of the show’s growing importance. With our company now expanding into the UAE, we put much effort into promoting our range of luxury catamarans in the Emirates and see very positive local feedback. We have a varied offer of yachts and notice a lot of interest in the new ULTIMA range as well as our 80 and 60-footers on display.
What do you expect from the premier in the Middle East? Do you expect it to be a big success in the region?
Presenting the electric 80 Sunreef Power Eco here is very important. We have a luxury motor yacht with outstanding living space, which doesn’t make any noise. It combines the highest level of luxury with the silence of a sailing yacht. This alone is something quite unique, but on top of this, the 80 boasts industry-first solar tech. She attracts a lot of attention because the region is known for its interest in futuristic technology.
Tell us about the concept of 80 Sunreef Power Eco Athena Too.
Athena Too was commissioned by a local Emirati owner, who has a genuine passion for new technology and quality. The yacht not only uses state-of-the-art green tech but also features plant-based composite elements. In many ways, this 80 Sunreef Power Eco is a glimpse into the future of luxury yachting.
Do you think the sustainable yacht concept will be a big success in the near future?
Eco-responsible yachting is the strongest industry trend. Customers and the world in general expect a cleaner approach to boating and we are proud to lead the way. More and more people realize that yachting should minimize its environmental impact. This is why invest so much effort in R&D and today, we use groundbreaking solar technology that we developed and produced in-house.
Do you plan to develop more similar models?
Athena Too is part of an entire range of electric motor yachts, including 60, 70, 80, and 100-foot models. Every model in the Sunreef offer, whether sail or power, can be delivered in Eco version with a full package of sustainable solutions. We also build eco-responsible superyachts with two amazing 43-meter sail catamarans currently in our order book.
