UK-origin Eric Morley created Miss World Pageant 71 years ago, but since his death 22 years ago, his widow, Julia Morley, has co-chaired the event along with Miss Universe, Miss International, and several others. The Miss World organization, which has franchises in more than 100 countries, has raised more than £1 billion since its founding in 1951 for children’s charities that support disabled and poor kids.
Last year the pageant took place in exotic Puerto Rico, where the new Miss World Karolina Bielawska, was crowned. Ms. Bielawska is from Poland and is studying for a Master’s degree in management, she is very interested and passionate about voluntary work and is currently involved in a project which provides constant help to homeless people in need and raises awareness to fight against social exclusion.

Miss World stands for excellence, integrity, motivation, and empathy among other qualities. It is safe to say that “Beauty with a Purpose”, which was started by Julia Morley in 1972, is the heart of the pageant since it englobes all the mentioned characteristics. This project consists of each country choosing a project close to home and fighting for that cause. So far, contestants have worked in cancer awareness events, encouraging female engineers, visiting children’s hospitals in Panama, raising money for social causes as well as many more inspiring initiatives.
