While talking about sustainability awareness and global issues, Chic Icon is one to be named among the platforms involved in creating world consciousness and giving insight into key causes, as well as participating in charities and fundraisers. This year, Chic Icon Magazine supported the Better World Fund event at the Venice Film Festival 2023 as a media partner. The 2 days event with Gala Dinner, Award Ceremony and Conference: “Consciousness, Health and Sustainability,” took place on September 8th & 9th 2022 organized by Better World Fund, and the Oscar winning producer, Joanna Plafsky as the Chairman of the event. The Gala and Conference were also organized in partnership with the David Lynch Foundation. Among the high guests who attended the event, we can name Catherine Deneuve, who had the honor to receive this year’s Golden Lion Award, Chrysta Bell, who delighted the participants with a special performance, and Madalina Ghenea, who performed in the House of Gucci, and former tennis player Yannick Noah, among several others.

The Better World Fund’s story starts in 2016, having as an objective mobilizing the combined power of technology, entertainment, culture, and brands to be able to create consciousness and develop a significant change for environmental protection. “The supply issues arising from the pandemic, and the more recent tragic developments in Europe, have emphasized the need to reorganize our agricultural practices and global value chains to ensure food security for all,” stated Manuel Collas de la Roche, President, and Founder of the Better World Fund. This conference addressed significant global issues and gave space to professionals who were able to explain and transmit their knowledge to create awareness among the guests.

The conference of Better World Fund focused mainly on the urgent need to alter agricultural and eating practices in order to better care for the planet and promote global health, while also highlighting the significance of consciousness and meditation along with the critical value of Earth’s precious resources during a series of events for thought-leaders. The conference’s focus, which is also aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, brought together important business leaders, scientists, environmentalists, writers, and activists to give insight, discuss and offer practical solutions to address environmental, biodiversity, and climatic concerns.

Nowadays, mindfulness and being conscious of our emotions and thoughts in a world that is constantly evolving and changing is a big challenge but a necessary one as well. The conference on “Consciousness, Meditation and Sustainability” was held by Harvard and MIT graduate, Dr. Nader, a neuroscientist, an internationally renowned authority on meditation, consciousness, and the brain, and a bestselling author. He spoke about new scientific insights into consciousness and the crucial role that meditation, which is a form of consciousness, plays in fostering human creativity. Dr. Nader had the honor of receiving the Better World Fund Prize for Commitment and Implementation of Programs toward Creating a Healthy World and presented projects of the David Lynch Foundation. Worldwide Transcendental Meditation organizations are directed by Dr. Tony Nader. He also serves as the International Medical Director of the David Lynch Foundation’s Heal the Healers Now initiative, which consists of a worldwide group of doctors and nurses delivering trauma-healing meditation techniques to frontline medical personnel confronting conflict, violence, and illness.

Addressing other relevant global issues, such as environmental protection, in the masterclass, “The Territory ” the Young Indigenous activist Koembu gave a speech and was awarded the Better World Fund Prize for the Best Achievement in Filmmaking. Koembu appeared in the multi-award-winning National Geographic documentary “The Territory.” This movie offers a vivid insider’s view of the Indigenous Uru-eu-wau-wau people’s never-ending struggle against the advancing deforestation brought on by farmers and unauthorized settlers in the Brazilian Amazon. Koembu traveled from Brazil to deliver a special message from the neighborhood. During his trip to Europe, Koembu also gave a speech in Brussels, where officials involved in the impending European Parliament debate and vote on a new law on deforestation-free products.

The event was very enlightening and addressed important global issues giving professionals a space to create awareness and explain the importance of being cognizant of the mentioned issues as well as being willing to develop a solution for them.
