The SSC Tuatara is currently recognized as the fastest production car in the world with a record top speed of 331.15mph (532.93km/h). The SSC Tuatara achieved this milestone on the 10th of October, 2020, by breaking the record previously set by the Koenigsegg Agera RS in 2017.
The SSC (Shelby Super Cars Inc.) Tuatara, a name that has been derived from a reptile known for having the fastest molecular revolution of any living animal, is manufactured by SSC North America and is assembled in the United States, Richland, Washington. The car has been designed by Jason Castriota as a sports car with an emphasis on dynamic performance, handling, acceleration, top speed, and thrill of driving. Special emphasis has been given to the exterior of the car as it is a 2-door coupe, having a sloping or truncated rear roofline. The layout designed for the car is of an RWR, i.e. rear mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive, a type of layout in which the rear wheels are driven by an engine placed just in front of them, behind the passengers compartment.
Moreover, what remains a very eye catching factor about the SSC Tuatara are its doors, which have been manufactured as butterfly doors, i.e. similar to scissor type doors, which are seen only on high performance cars. Furthermore, the car is of course known for its speed, which has been made possible with a powerful 6.9L SSC twin-turbocharged V8 engine, which compresses the intake fuel/air mixture, producing a massive horsepower of 1750hp (1305kW), therefore resulting in lightning high speed. In addition to its powerful engine and robust striking looks, the car is equipped with a 7-speed electrohydraulic transmission system, which is also known as a clutchless manual system; it is a semi-automatic transmission system that is based on the mechanical internals of a manual transmission system.
Adding on to the external beauty of the SSC Tuatara are the attractive interiors. The car is a perfect blend of thrill and luxury with its leather and Alcantara upholstery, along with its touch screen located on the center console, which is used to control the functions of the car. Moreover, the interiors also include a configurable instrument panel located behind the steering wheel that displays important information regarding the car’s status. Furthermore, traditional side-view mirrors are too mainstream for this speedster, so it makes use of a camera instead.
The SSC Tuatara is all about having more than what is expected from any car. It offers 3 driving modes, which are, “Sport mode”, “Track mode”, and “Lift mode”. Moreover, the car offers 2 configurations as well, which are, “High-speed configuration”, and “High-downforce configuration”.
In addition to being the ”Fastest production vehicle” in the world, the SSC Tuatara also holds the record for the “Fastest flying mile on a public road”, with a top speed of 313.12mph (503.92km/h); the “Fastest flying kilometer on a public road”, with a top speed of 321mph (517.16km/h); and the “Highest speed achieved on a public road”, with a top speed of 331.15mph (532.93km/h).
