Naples is the third largest city of Italy, after Rome and Milan, and is the regional capital of Campania. It has been known for its natural beauty which is evident from its notable hotspots such as Posillipo, Phlegraean Fields, Nisida, Vesuvius, and many more. Although it has been known for its association with Pizza, which originated in the city, it is also home to numerous other local dishes, making it a must visit destination for die hard food lovers. Moreover, Naples’ historic city centre is the largest in Europe, and has been designated as a UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) World Heritage Site.
Naples has been regarded as a centre of art, architecture, and culture, which can easily be witnessed as it is reflected in its churches, castles, and palaces. However, art, architecture, and culture, is not all that Naples has to offer to its visitors, it has had a long history in the world of theatre as well. In terms of theatre, Naples has been one of the oldest in Europe, going all the way back to the 18th Century. For example, the “Teatro di San Carlo”, is connected to the Royal Palace, and is the oldest continuously active opera house in the world.

Furthermore, having been the birth place of Pizza, Naples is for sure a hub for the foodies. Naples offers its visitors with many outstanding and mouth watering dishes such as, parmigiana di melanzane, spaghetti alle vongole, casatiello, impepata di cozze, purpetiello affogato, alici marinate, baccalà alla napoletana, and baccalà fritto, which is usually eaten during Christmas.
While on a trip to Naples, there are a few top places that everyone must visit, such as, Mount Vesuvius, Ruins of Pompeii (UNESCO World Heritage Site), Naples National Archeological Museum, San Gennaro Catacombs, Ruins of Herculaneum (UNESCO World Heritage Site), Castel Nuovo, Cappela Sansevero, and Castel dell’Ovo.

We had the pleasure to stay in the Covo degli Angioini luxury apartments and have a conversation with the owner Mr. Marco Napolitano to find out more about his hotel and Naples.
Your luxury apartments have been known for its ‘feel like home’ warmth, so what strategy do you follow to ensure that the visitors at your luxury apartments have the comfort they have been craving for?
I have been traveling a lot for work and had the chance to experience luxurious accommodations in different locations around the world. However, I have noticed that luxury per se is not enough to make an experience unique. You need to combine such luxury with a touch of comfort and warmth. Therefore, when I make a new apartment, my team and I do our best to put ourselves in our guests’ shoes, taking into consideration every single detail, even the smallest. Our guests need to appreciate all comforts and luxurious facilities, but they also need to feel home when they come back from a tiring day of tourism or work. It is this combination that differentiates “Covo degli Angioini” from any other competitor.
What had been the most challenging part of running luxury apartments?
The main challenge is the initial significant investment of resources you need to put forward in order to create a concept that responds to the needs of all guests. But once the mechanism is up and running, then everything else is easier. We just put a lot of effort in ensuring the most careful maintenance of all the apartments features so that once guests reach the apartments, everything is perfect.

How do you encourage yourself and your employees to keep working tirelessly towards the success and improvisation of your luxury apartments?
Our real gratification is to see our guests happy and satisfied by their stay. That is where our passion derives from. That is the best possible engine of a perfectly working machinery, which is why our staff is trained to provide constant support to our guests during their stay, doing everything we can to satisfy all their wishes, but with the highest discretion and professionalism. I would say that once we welcome our guests, they immediately appreciate that their stay will be tailor-made to meet all their needs. And we are also fully aware to operate in a glorious city, Naples, thanks to its unsettling beauty, history and humanity makes any visit here unique. Therefore, we know we need to be up to its standards!
Having come a long way to achieve the name and fame your luxury apartments have now, what strategy did you adopt to get this far? And how often do you change your approach and strategy to adapt to the scenarios?
Considering the significant financial investment needed to start a luxury hospitality activity, I needed a very strong, forward-looking business plan, starting from a carefully calibrated marketing strategy and passing through a meticulous attention to all those details that make an experience unforgettable for our guests. Our philosophy has always been that ‘quality’ is the password for success. This is the case also when things do not go in the direction you would expect. The Covid-19 crisis has strongly hit our sector, but we have very well managed to handle it by applying the highest possible level of flexibility, taking all the measures required to ensure full safety.

Short term goals or long term goals, which one of the two has worked better for you? Why?
Both short and long term goals are fundamental to any business activity. You will not achieve long term objectives without short term results and vice versa. What is important is to find the right balance between the two. Covo degli Angioini is now satisfying short term goals with an eye to the future. We have very interesting plans for the future that we will soon disclose publicly and will implement in the next couple of years. Obviously, always with one guiding principle: ‘quality’!
