Lake Como, the home of Villa Cipressi, has established a reputation for impeccable aristocratic taste and breath-taking views, and today these are still the qualities that enable Lake Como to consistently head any list of world class destinations, and continue to be the classy vacation epicentre of the world’s most famous and rich people.
Lake Como is one of the few places in the world that can be truly described as unique and classy, it has been a popular retreat for aristocrats and wealthy people since Roman times, the lake is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful locations in the world. Lake Como, situated in the region of Lombardy, is the third largest lake in Italy, after Lake Garda and Lake Maggiore. Also known as Lake Lario (from its Latin name: Larius Lacus), Lake Como is shaped like an inverted letter “Y”, with three large arms; to the west is the town of Como, to the east is Lecco and to the north is Colico.
Its banks host enchanting villiages such as Bellagio, Varenna, Tremezzo and Menaggio. Each town exhibits individual architectural magnificence; beautiful churches and paradise gardens adorn the shores of the Lake, sophisticated connoisseurs float from one bank to another in search for the most picturesque dining spot and culture lovers take pleasure in the momentous villas and old city streets.
For our stay we have chosen a small town Varenna. It is truly a fairy tale city where you are encouraged to indulge your senses and selfishly savour every moment of it. Situated between the lake and the mountain, Varenna is a sweet little hamlet of Roman origin. Its walkways above the water and infinite stairs gain ground both on the lake and the mountain.
Staying in Varenna’s famous Villa Cipressi is a must do experience when on Lake Como. A complex of buildings and gardens, rich in history, built mainly between 1400 and 1800, is one of the most known and beautiful properties on the Lake. Owned by public corporations, mainly by the Municipality of Varenna, it is managed by the group R Collection Hotels organizing great renovation works maintaining the magic of its history and providing all the modern comforts together with priceless views of the Lake.
The paradisiacal botanical garden of Villa Cipressi is open to hotel guests and to all those want to enjoy its beauty. The green path is a journey of perfumes and magical sensations. Something more then a walk in a botanical garden, because it became a project of design created with indigenous plants that made the history of the park. It is a real gem that tells the biodiversity of each area of the country, a mix of contemporary architecture and ancient gardens, a Dolce Vita getaway that will not leave you indifferent.
