With its latest limited-edition collection for La Beauté Louis Vuitton, the maison turns makeup into something closer to a collectible object — bringing together the creative visions of Nicolas Ghesquière and Pat McGrath in a collaboration that feels as instinctive as it is luxurious.
Inspired by two of Louis Vuitton’s most recognisable signatures, Monogram Dune and Monogram Infrarouge, the collection celebrates the emblem’s 130th anniversary through two distinctly different moods.
Monogram Dune is the softer proposition: a study in sun-warmed neutrals and understated luminosity. A new rosy-beige LV Rouge lipstick brings a sophisticated wash of colour to the lips, while the LV Ombres palette moves effortlessly between white, rose gold, metallic grey and delicate pink. The LV Baume adds the final touch — a holographic veil of light designed to be worn alone or layered over lipstick.
Then comes Monogram Infrarouge, its seductive counterpart. Here, the palette deepens into burgundy and blue-grey metallics, while a dark berry LV Rouge creates a more dramatic statement. The LV Baume in Galactic Veil introduces an almost kaleidoscopic flash of colour, transforming the simplest beauty look into something decidedly more theatrical.
Yet perhaps the most intriguing element is the creative chemistry behind it. Ghesquière and McGrath have spent years shaping beauty backstage at Louis Vuitton, and this collection is less a conventional collaboration than a continuation of an artistic conversation. As McGrath describes it, the pieces began not with a brief, but with “a feeling”.
