A holiday to Croatia is not only about sightseeing in Dubrovnik or city breaks in Zagreb – it’s far from it! The country has over a thousand picturesque and unspoiled islands that are easy to visit and make an ideal base for a holiday or an island-hopping trip. But with so much on offer, choosing which island can be challenging. To help you with this, here’s our choice for the best Croatian islands for luxury island hopping.

Hvar

Hvar is a posh island getaway exuding a laidback Mediterranean vibe. It’s rich in culture and history and is home to some of Croatia’s most beautiful beaches. On your visit to the island, you can hike along ancient paths, discover picturesque villages, swim in secluded coves, and party until the early morning.

While many would come to Hvar on a day trip, consider spending a day or two to discover everything the island can offer. Stay in Hvar Town, where you’ll find many excellent hotels, bars, and restaurants. It’s also a fun area to walk around, with red-roofed buildings and picturesque cobblestone streets.

Vis

Since Croatia encompasses numerous islands, cruising is the best way to explore the country. You can choose from many luxury cruises in Croatia, the best way to see many islands, including Vis, an ideal island to visit if you want to relax on a tranquil beach far from the maddening crowd.

One of the best beaches to visit in Vis is Pritiscína public beach, a few kilometres from the charming village of Podhumlje. It’s a pebbly beach with crystal clear turquoise waters providing a perfect spot for swimming.

Korcula

Dubbed the “Little Dubrovnik,” Korcula is a lovely island home to an Old Town with distinctive architectural styles. Like in Dubrovnik, you’ll find many fascinating historical sites in Korcula, including the St. Mark’s Cathedral, which dates back to the 15th Century and is one of Croatia’s most stunning Gothic-style structures.

Korcula is also home to some stunning beaches, such as the secluded Bacva Bay Beach, a pebble bay with clear turquoise waters. The protected cover is only 13 km from the town and is close to the village of Pupnat.

Mljet

As mentioned, going on a cruise around Croatia is a great way to see more of the country’s incredible islands. It’s also an ideal option for those who love to explore and venture off the beaten paths.

If you love exploring nature, visit Mljet on your island-hopping adventure. It’s the greenest Croatian island, featuring a stunning landscape blanketed in lush Mediterranean forests. Mljet is also home to two beautiful lakes and a national park, perfect for hiking.

Brac

Brac is among the largest islands of Croatia, offering numerous things to see and do. It’s best known for Zltani Rat, often called the Golden Horn, one of Croatia’s most popular beaches. If you want to escape the crowds of Zlatni Rat, head to a secluded cove called Mutnik Beach, not far from the tiny village of Mirca.

Aside from enjoying the beach, Brac is also an ideal island for trekking. It’s home to Vidova Gora, a mountain of about 780 metres tall and takes about 1.5 hours to climb.
