Luxury travel today is as much about the stories a place tells as the comfort it offers. Across Asia, a new wave of hotels is redefining the guest experience by turning their walls—and often entire properties—into canvases for creativity. From curated art tours and heritage craft showcases to living galleries celebrating local ecosystems, each property offers a distinctive way for travelers to engage with art while on the move.

Hong Kong: The Hari Art Trail

In Hong Kong’s Wan Chai district, The Hari Hong Kong invites guests to embark on The Hari Art Trail, a cultural immersion blending the hotel’s eclectic art collection with the neighborhood’s thriving contemporary scene. Guests are guided by Bibek Rai, the hotel’s in-house artist and art ambassador, who shares insights into installations ranging from surreal photography to three-dimensional digital film. London-based advisory A Space For Art curates these pieces, a team also responsible for selecting works for sister property The Hari London. Guests are encouraged to continue the journey offsite, exploring hidden gems like the Foo Tak Building—a 1960s tenement converted into a creative hub—and the appointment-only PHD Group gallery.

Thailand: Umbrella Art Above

Meliá Chiang Mai offers a visual homage to Bo Sang Umbrella Village, renowned for its hand-crafted parasols. Entering the 21st-floor Mai Restaurant and Bar, guests encounter illuminated umbrella ribs suspended from the ceiling, alongside wall-mounted creations made from antique textiles and bamboo. Subtle concentric patterns in gunmetal gray, periwinkle, and amber echo the traditional canopy design, creating a space that is both a feast for the eyes and a nod to local heritage.

Vietnam: 250 Oil Paintings and Pottery Heritage

The Anam Mui Ne, opened in 2023, commissioned Vietnamese artists to create 250 oil paintings for rooms, suites, and public spaces, capturing daily life and abstract landscapes alike. Clay vases and figurines crafted by the Cham people, now on UNESCO’s list of intangible cultural heritage in urgent need of safeguarding, further enrich the visual narrative, giving visitors a profound sense of Vietnam’s cultural depth.

Bangkok: A City Interpreted

INNSiDE by Meliá Bangkok Sukhumvit offers an abstract tour of the city’s landmarks. From the Giant Swing reimagined near the 34th-floor infinity pool to kite-themed installations at the Kites Eatery, each artistic touch captures the essence of Bangkok. Optical illusions in stairwells and gold-leaf details inspired by Wat Phra Kaew blend urban sophistication with cultural reverence.

Vietnam: Wellness Meets Creativity

TIA Wellness Resort has transformed art into a pathway for wellbeing. Its new gallery features 32 images, including ten photographs by French analogue photographer Jeff Courdrec and abstract ink works by Hoi An calligrapher Nguyễn Xuân Sinh. These pieces echo the resort’s Zen Splash concept, blending inspiration, boldness, and creative reflection to complement daily workshops in the Creative Space.

Tokyo: More Than 700 Pieces

At Palace Hotel Tokyo, a Forbes Five-Star property overlooking the Imperial Palace gardens, guests can explore a collection of over 700 works installed throughout public spaces, rooms, and restaurants. Art Front Gallery offers guided tours highlighting the pieces’ symbolism, technique, and narrative, bridging Tokyo’s historic past with the vibrant Marunouchi district.

Cambodia: Heritage in Focus

In Cambodia, Raffles Hotel Le Royal in Phnom Penh and Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor in Siem Reap celebrate contemporary Khmer artists, with exhibitions in restaurants and public areas, spotlighting figures inspired by Apsara dancers and national heritage.

Vietnam: A Living Gallery

At Angsana Lang Co, art and nature converge. The Birds Sanctuary Photo Gallery showcases images of local avian life, doubling as a conservation initiative under the Stay for Good program. Guests can contribute their own photographs or join guided birdwatching excursions, turning the resort into a living, participatory exhibition.

Whether it’s curated collections, immersive installations, or galleries that come alive with nature, these hotels remind travelers that art can extend far beyond the frame—becoming an integral part of the journey itself.
