Henry Poole earned the title of ‘Founder of Savile Row’ in 1846 and established a bespoke tailoring shop called Henry Poole & Company. In 1958, G.J. Cleverley & Co, a bespoke shoemaker, opened at Savile Row and went on to make shoes for Sir Winston Churchill, Laurence Olivier and Sir John Gielgud. By 1959, the street was recognized as the pinnacle of masculine elegance by cinema watchers worldwide.
In 1969, Nutters was the first shop on the iconic street who pioneered open windows and exhibit some brilliant yet wild displays. By 1992, Richard James was the first of the ‘New Generation’ tailors who introduced Saturday opening which was a revolution on Savile Row. Nick Hart opened Spencer Hart at Savile Row and went on to dress David Bowie, Jay-Z and Kanye West in 2002.
