Savile Row is a famous street located in Central London and is known for its fantastic array of high-end tailor shops. Bespoke expressed in words is constructing garments that are made-to-measure for a particular customer. The name ‘Savile Row’ has become synonymous with time, and it honors concepts of quality, style and discreet luxury.

History of Savile Row Bespoke:

Savile Row’s tailoring establishment began during the 1630s. Some tailoring houses originated during the 17th and 18thcenturies, before the street had taken on its current name. Henry Poole earned the title of ‘Founder of Savile Row’ in 1846 and established a bespoke tailoring shop called Henry Poole & Company. In 1958, G.J. Cleverley & Co, a bespoke shoemaker, opened at Savile Row and went on to make shoes for Sir Winston Churchill, Laurence Olivier and Sir John Gielgud. By 1959, the street was recognized as the pinnacle of masculine elegance by cinema watchers worldwide.

In 1969, Nutters was the first shop on the iconic street who pioneered open windows and exhibit some brilliant yet wild displays. By 1992, Richard James was the first of the ‘New Generation’ tailors who introduced Saturday opening which was a revolution on Savile Row. Nick Hart opened Spencer Hart at Savile Row and went on to dress David Bowie, Jay-Z and Kanye West in 2002. The Savile Row Bespoke Association, the organization designed to represent bespoke tailors acts to protect the craft and the good name of Savile Row and ward off intruders by registering a label, which has to appear on each members bespoke garments that assures the customer that they are in receipt of a genuine, bespoke, made on the legendary street piece of clothing. Founding members include Anderson & Sheppard, Dege & Skinner, Gieves & Hawkes and Henry Poole.

Significance of Bespoke garments:

While some men are able to get away with ready to wear clothing, it simply wouldn’t work for men who want to make an impression on the world, they would need to go with made to measure clothes from tailors that elevate the apparel. By choosing bespoke garments, the customer gets unlimited selection of clothes compared to other alternatives. Bespoke garments from reputable tailor shops also ensures that the fit of the clothing will be impeccable and precise. Bespoke clothing provides a timeless experience that lasts longer than ready to wear clothing due to its quality materials, fine craft and equipment which make the garment one of a kind. When a man purchases a suit from a Savile Row tailor, they’re not only getting excellent quality clothes but also achieve a new level of social value. There’s nothing that beats a perfectly tailored garment, from top businessmen, to world leaders they all wear bespoke garments and wouldn’t consider other alternatives.
