The Design Council Abu Dhabi (DCAD) has once again set a benchmark for innovation and cultural exchange with the launch of its Pottery & Ceramics Design Residency, a visionary program created in partnership with the esteemed Italian porcelain brand Ginori 1735. This six-month initiative, hosted at Abu Dhabi’s MAKE workshop, offers a transformative platform for UAE-based creatives, blending heritage-driven craft with contemporary design practices.
Under the chairwomanship of Her Highness Sheikha Shamsa Bint Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, the residency welcomes 10 to 15 talented UAE nationals and residents, both men and women, specializing in ceramics or pottery. Participants gain exclusive access to masterclasses, studio practice, and sustainability-driven design techniques, including a dedicated session led by Ginori 1735’s Creative Director. Through this intensive program, residents develop original collections that fuse regional traditions with centuries of Italian porcelain expertise, culminating in a public Capstone Exhibition at the Bassam Freiha Art Foundation in October 2026. Select talents will also have the opportunity to undertake prestigious internships at Ginori 1735’s Florence headquarters, bridging the UAE’s creative talent with Europe’s most celebrated craft heritage.

The residency reflects DCAD’s ongoing commitment to nurturing a world-class design ecosystem in Abu Dhabi. By fostering cross-cultural dialogue and supporting emerging talent, the program positions the city as a global hub for creative innovation. Ginori 1735’s involvement reinforces this ethos, offering participants insight into luxury craftsmanship and contemporary artistry, while celebrating the Maison’s centuries-long legacy.
With its focus on education, cultural heritage, and sustainability, the Pottery & Ceramics Design Residency exemplifies the next evolution of Abu Dhabi’s creative economy, empowering designers to elevate their craft, engage with global narratives, and redefine the boundaries of modern ceramic design.
