I arrived in Athens with a sense of delighted curiosity and found myself drawn into the elegant embrace of the city. Nestled in one of the most coveted addresses in the capital, the newly opened Eternity Athens in Mitropoleos 62 places you within minutes of the frenetic pulse of Monastiraki’s flea market, the winding lanes of Plaka, and the cool cafés of Ermou Street. Stepping into the lobby, I sensed right away that this property is more than just a base — it’s part of the city’s story.

From the moment I entered, it was clear this hotel is brand new and thoughtfully crafted. The minimalist design aesthetic is elegantly restrained: clean lines, subdued tones, and carefully chosen textures create a space that feels both serene and modern. My room offered a direct view of the Acropolis of Athens—a moment of sheer magic, especially as dawn’s light softened its ancient stone.

Breakfast each morning felt like a refined ritual. The buffet spread included crisp pastries, Greek yogurt with walnuts and honey, fresh fruit, and regional cheeses; alongside this, I ordered eggs cooked to my liking — a la carte, crisped just so. It was a relaxed start to a day of wandering in Athens: I could grab a coffee and toast in the dining area, then set out on foot to explore.

And explore I did. Because the location of Eternity Athens is simply unbeatable. A short stroll from the lobby and you are at Monastiraki, you’re walking past tiny tavernas, vintage shops, street-food stalls, and historic ruins breathing history. Athens opened up to me, not as a tourist but as a wanderer. It’s an ideal position for staying in touch with the city’s heartbeat.

Yet one of the greatest pleasures of this stay lay in the hotel’s dining scene — especially at the in-house gastrobar, the Atena Gastrobar. Drawing on Mediterranean inspiration, the menu taps into flavours from different regions of Greece, and the execution feels both polished and warm. I began with a beautifully tender grilled octopus: smokey, sea-salt-kissed, and paired with a creamy arugula. Then came the beef tagliata — medium-rare slices of rib eye served with a potato terrine and seasonal vegetables, accentuated by a bold chimichurri sauce. Another standout: lamb chops, perfectly cooked and paired with roasted cherry tomatoes and an intensely aromatic yogurt dip. Gyoza appeared on the menu too — a playful fusion twist — and the pork gyros offered a rich, tender take on the classic street-food dish. Among the must-tries was fish dolma — delicate parcels of filleted fish wrapped in vine leaves, brimming with fresh herbs and olive oil, with a side of silky lemon-rice. For greens, I savoured the “Perian salad” — crisp and bright, dressed with olive oil and featuring heirloom tomatoes, capers and a sprinkle of region-specific cheese. Dessert brought the perfect finish: tiganopsomo with chocolate — a warm, traditional fried bread drizzled with dark chocolate and served with a scoop of gelato. It felt both regional and indulgent.

The gastrobar’s ambience matched the hotel’s clean aesthetic: wood and stone, gentle lighting, a casual sophistication. The service was friendly and attentive, guiding me through the menu’s regional references and suggesting Greek wines to match. In short, Eternity Athens and Atena Gastrobar created a stay that feels anchored in place — in the city, in the cuisine, in the moment. If you’re looking to experience Athens from the inside out, with great food, a perfect address, and modern elegance, this one deserves your attention.
